Its objective is to establish the essential safety devices that must be incorporated in new vehicles, whose gross vehicle weight does not exceed 3,857 kg and that are marketed within the territory of the United Mexican States, as well as the specifications that such devices must meet.
The safety regulations introduced require basic safety components to be installed in all new cars. Some of these components include: three-point seat belts, headlights, head restraints, rear and side mirrors, and seating systems, which will now have to meet international safety standards.
The implementation of other safety components such as airbags, abs and seat belt reminder went into effect for pre-NOM vehicles in 2019 and 2020, to allow the automotive industry to modify its production platforms.
