FUNCTIONAL SAFETY REGULATIONS
ISO 26262 derived from the IEC 61508 Standard is an international standard for functional safety in the automotive industry. The standard applies to electrical and electronic systems consisting of hardware and software components in vehicles.
ISO 26262 defines the requirements that the security functions of the system must meet, as well as the processes, methods and tools that are used within the development process.
The ISO 26262 standard ensures that acceptable levels of safety are met and maintained throughout the life cycle of the vehicle.
Using ISO 26262 to assess the safety of a vehicle’s electrical and electronic components provides original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and automotive suppliers with multiple benefits, such as:
